ABOUT THE DAYBORO REGION
Dayboro derives its current name from William Henry Day, an early settler who established one of the region’s first sugar plantations in the late 1860s. Previously known as Hamilton (1875) and then Terrors Creek (1892), the town was renamed Dayboro in 1917 to avoid confusion with Torrens Creek. The area has long been occupied by the Garumngar people, whose traditional lands extend across the Upper Brisbane River catchment.
Historic Agricultural Hub of the Pine Rivers District Early settlers in the 1870s-1890s primarily harvested timber from the region’s cedar and beech forests, farmed maize, vegetables, and dairy products. By 1900, the town had established its agricultural identity with a sawmill, and by 1903 the Silverwood Butter Factory was processing dairy from farms stretching from Mount Mee to Samford. The 1915 description of Dayboro as “being set prettily on a hillside, and being the centre of miles of agricultural, dairying and fruit lands” remains accurate today.
