Cattle Crushes
What is a cattle crush used for?
A cattle crush is a restraint device that holds an individual animal securely while a handler carries out veterinary or husbandry tasks. It prevents the animal from moving forward, backward, or sideways during treatment, which protects both the animal and the handler. Common tasks carried out in a crush include:
- Ear tagging and NLIS compliance

What is the difference between a Standard Crush, Premium Crush, and Premium Full Squeeze Crush?
All three are Brazzen cattle crushes built from hot-dip galvanised steel, but they suit different workloads and handling needs:
Standard Crush: Built for everyday use on working beef properties. Suitable for routine treatments, vaccination programs, and general husbandry. The most commonly chosen option for Queensland cattle producers.
Premium Crush: A step up in build quality and features for properties that handle cattle frequently or intensively. Better suited to high-volume operations and more demanding handling schedules.
Premium Full Squeeze Crush: The top-of-range option with a squeeze mechanism that closes side panels firmly against the animal’s body. Required when full body immobilisation is needed, such as for intensive veterinary procedures or hoof trimming.

What is a Hobby Crush and who is it suited to?
The Hobby Crush is designed for smaller properties and hobby farms running a modest number of head. If your handling requirements are routine rather than intensive and your herd is small, the Hobby Crush provides reliable restraint at a price point that suits a smaller operation. It is a genuine Brazzen unit built from galvanised steel and is not an entry-level compromise, just the right size tool for the job it is designed to do.
What is a Head Bale and how does it differ from a full cattle crush?
A Head Bale restrains the animal’s head and neck, preventing forward movement and holding the head in a controlled position. It does not restrain the body the way a full crush does. Paired with two cattle panels and a sliding gate, a Head Bale creates a budget-friendly handling setup that covers most routine on-farm tasks. It is ideal for smaller operations that need a workable restraint system without the cost of a complete crush. For tasks requiring full body immobilisation, a Standard, Premium, or Full Squeeze Crush is the better choice.
What does a Chin Lift do?
The Chin Lift is an add-on that attaches to the head bail and raises the animal’s head into a more accessible and controlled position. This makes veterinary examinations, pregnancy testing, eye and mouth treatments, and any work around the head and neck easier and safer for the handler. It is a practical addition for properties with regular vet involvement.
Why is hot-dip galvanised steel better for cattle crushes in Queensland?
Hot-dip galvanising bonds zinc with the base steel at a metallurgical level, protecting the metal from the inside out. Unlike painted or surface-coated steel, which protects only the exterior and becomes vulnerable once chipped or scratched, hot-dip galvanising continues to protect even if the surface is damaged. In Queensland’s climate, with high humidity, significant rainfall, and temperature extremes, this matters significantly for equipment left outdoors year-round. A hot-dip galvanised crush will last decades with minimal maintenance.

What types of cattle panels does SEQ Rural supply?
We supply the full Brazzen cattle panel range, which covers four main options:
Budget Cattle Panel: A cost-effective option for lower-demand applications and larger yard areas where maximum strength is not the primary requirement.
Standard Cattle Panel: The most commonly used panel for general yard construction, suitable for a wide range of property types and herd sizes.
Premium Cattle Panel: Heavy-duty construction for high-traffic areas, race sections, and anywhere animals exert concentrated pressure on panels.
Combo Panel and Gate: A combined panel and gate unit that simplifies construction and reduces the number of separate components needed in the yard.

What is the difference between Budget, Standard, and Premium cattle panels?
The main differences are in steel thickness, rail spacing, and overall load capacity. Budget panels suit lower-stress areas of the yard where cattle are not pushing consistently against the structure. Standard panels are appropriate for general yard use. Premium panels are built for the most demanding sections of the yard, including race approaches, force yard exits, and anywhere large numbers of animals are working through a tight space. Choosing the right panel grade for each section of the yard is more important than choosing the same grade throughout.
How do cattle panels connect to each other and to gates or crushes?
Brazzen cattle panels use a pin-and-lug connection system that allows panels to be connected securely and repositioned without specialist tools. This makes reconfiguring yard layouts straightforward if your handling requirements change over time. All panels in the Brazzen range are designed to integrate with Brazzen gates, crushes, and force yards without requiring modification.
Cattle Gates
What cattle gates does SEQ Rural supply?
We supply a comprehensive range of Brazzen cattle gates for every position in the yard. The range includes standard swing gates in multiple sizes, sliding gates for tight spaces, drafting gates for sorting cattle into two or three groups, a spear trap gate for catching individual animals, the 360 gate, access gates, and man panel gates for handler entry and exit. The right gate for each position in the yard depends on how that section is used and what movements the handler needs to control.
What is a Sliding Cattle Gate and when should I use one?
A Sliding Cattle Gate opens by sliding sideways along a fixed track rather than swinging on hinges. This makes it the right choice wherever there is not enough clearance for a swinging gate, including along fence lines, in covered yards, or where yard posts and rails are closely positioned. Sliding gates are also useful in positions where a swinging gate would create a hazard for the handler if an animal pushes it unexpectedly.
What is a 3 Way Drafting Gate?
A 3 Way Drafting Gate allows a handler to direct individual cattle coming through the race into one of three directions: left, right, or straight ahead. This is used to sort cattle into different mobs during processing, for example separating cows, heifers, and steers, or drafting treated animals away from those still waiting. A 2 Way Cattle Race Gate serves the same function for two-direction sorting.
Force Yards
What is a cattle force yard?
A cattle force yard is a curved, funnel-shaped yard that uses the natural behaviour of cattle to move them toward the race without the handler needing to apply pressure from behind. The curved design uses the animal’s instinct to follow the curve and find a way through, while a braking gate at the race entry prevents animals from pushing back once they have entered. The result is a calmer, faster, safer loading process compared to conventional square holding yards.
Does a force yard suit smaller properties?
A force yard is most beneficial on properties that regularly handle moderate to large numbers of cattle, typically 40 head or more per session. For very small herds, the capital cost and space requirements of a full force yard may not be justified by the time and effort savings it provides. However, the answer depends on the specific property and how often cattle are handled. It is worth a conversation with our team before deciding either way.

What cattle ramps does SEQ Rural supply?
We supply three main ramp options from the Brazzen range, plus an optional walkway kit:
Premium Cattle Ramp: A robust ramp for properties that load and unload cattle regularly, built for reliability and safety.
Adjustable Cattle Ramp: A ramp with adjustable height to suit different truck tray heights, reducing the need for the truck to position precisely each time.
Heavy Duty Cattle Ramp: For high-volume operations or heavier cattle, built to handle more demanding loading conditions.

What is the right ramp height for my truck?
Ramp height needs to match the tray height of the truck or float being used. The Adjustable Cattle Ramp is the most flexible option because it accommodates different tray heights, which is particularly useful if multiple vehicles are used on the property or the truck changes over time. Cattle Feeders
What feeders does SEQ Rural supply?
We supply two Brazzen feeders: the Round Hay Feeder and the Lick Feeder. Both are suitable for cattle and horses. The Lick Feeder is also used for sheep.
Why does the Brazzen Lick Feeder have a barrel shape?
The barrel shape distributes load evenly around the circumference of the feeder rather than concentrating stress at flat side panels or corner welds. This means the feeder handles the weight of lick blocks, the pressure of multiple animals feeding simultaneously, and knocks from equipment or livestock without warping or cracking. Flat-sided lick feeders tend to fail at the corners and side welds under repeated loading. The barrel design also sheds water more effectively, keeping lick product drier during Queensland’s wet season.

What should I consider when designing a cattle yard layout?
The most important factor is cattle flow. Yards that allow animals to move forward without dead ends, blind corners, or narrow pinch points handle significantly more smoothly than those that do not. Key design considerations include:
- Aligning the race and crush so cattle move in a straight or gently curved line from the holding area through to the crush exit
- Keeping the force yard curved and filling it to no more than half capacity per run for best results
- Positioning the loading ramp where the truck can access it easily without reversing through tight spaces
- Building in separate handler access paths so people can move around the yard without climbing over rails
- Designing for your typical mob size, with holding capacity that matches how many cattle you process in a day

How do I know which yard design suits my herd size?
As a rough guide, a yard designed for 10 to 40 head suits hobby farms and small lifestyle properties running modest herd numbers. A 40 to 100 head design suits most working beef properties running a mid-sized breeding herd. Designs for 100 to 250 head and above suit larger commercial operations where handling efficiency and throughput are critical. We can review your specific situation and recommend the right layout. Does SEQ Rural offer custom steel fabrication?
Yes. We provide custom metal fabrication for rural properties that need equipment built to specific dimensions or requirements. This includes custom cattle ramps for non-standard truck tray heights, modified panels for unusual yard configurations, and bespoke livestock handling components that are not available off the shelf. If a standard product does not fit your situation, contact us and we will discuss what is possible.
Does SEQ Rural offer on-site welding and repairs?
Yes. We provide on-site welding and repairs for steel panels, gates, crushes, and other rural steel equipment. This is particularly useful for maintaining existing infrastructure without the cost and complexity of transporting heavy equipment off the property. Do you supply equipment for sheep and horses as well as cattle?
Yes. As well as our cattle range, we supply sheep panels and gates including draft gates, race gates, and a sheep loading ramp. For horses, we supply horse panels, gates, and shelters, including float panels and high-top horse gates. The Brazzen Round Hay Feeder and Lick Feeder are also suitable for horses and sheep.
